Swiss-born, Rotterdam-based.

I am doing research at the intersection of business, society and technology. My interest and expertise are ... in managing and governing systems and communities, ... in the application of new technologies, ... and in the overall architecture and design of the social, technological and commercial aspects of enterprises.

I am equally intrigued by the challenges of investigating models that explain and applying these models to both companies as permanent and projects as temporary organisations.

I am an international business collaboriginal (as one colleague put it) – a serial enabler.

As a Research Professor at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences I study the impact of readily available digital technologies – from media and manufacturing to algorithms and AI – and the design and manufacturing practice of “fabbers” and “makers” on various industries, and the emergence of networked co-operation paradigms and business models based on lateral governance and open source principles.

With Waag in Amsterdam I have worked on Creative Commons, particularly a few "Wiki loves ..." initiatives, on FabLabs and other nerdy stuff.

As a consultant (since 1997) I work in the area of cluster management, strategy development and implementation, and integrated management systems with a variety of customers – industry, non-profit, charities and public sector.

In the lat 1990s, for six years I was a researcher at ETH Zurich at the interface of industrial psychology and management science; research topics were factory automation and human factors, object-oriented, modular production systems, technology assessment, and the development of integrated management systems.

In my earlier practice as an industrial engineer, I have attached robots and automatic tool-changers to CNC lathes and milling machines, replaced assembly lines by semi-autonomous groups, and worked on quality management systems.

I've also held a couple of technology transfer positions – in the field of Computer Integrated Manufacturing with the Swiss Government and in Advanced Knowledge Technologies at the University of Aberdeen.

I have also spent time producing fringe theatre and literary festivals (Lucerne, Switzerland), and critical social art (Aberdeen, Scotland), none of which became Wikipedia relevant, I'm afraid.
